WP-Flickr v0.3
I have updated the WP-Flickr plug-in tonight with some more features:
- Added a tag preview to the options window for checking which flickr pics you will see without having to cache them all or do the post/edit/post/edit thing
- Option to suppress the automatic CSS output, although if you use this then remember to implement the styles in your site CSS.
- Option to hide title and/or footer div’s

Mathias, plugin shows between 0 to 5 pics. Most probably there is not enough picture with that tag in flickr. Try different tags.
Dave, some suggestions for coming version (if any);
- Aligning pictures/header/footer from options.
- Option for number of picture to display (I had to modify to 4 at my blog due to space problem).
I know these can be done within plugin. Just to make life easier for leazy users.

I checked Flickr for the number of images available for my test tags. There are quite a lot for “God”, “Church”, “Love” etc - however, there’s never more than one showing up in the options cache for your plugin nor in my test posting. Could there be a problem with the other plugins I’m running?
How about “import ___ images” and “import random selection” functionality?
I heartily double metin’s wishes.
And again - how can I make the thumbs clickable so that they open the image’s original Flickr page? Ideally, this could be configurable on the options page…

I’m using your plugin in my WP posts by creating unique tags for my flickr photos and linking to slideshows of the photos. I would prefer having the photos linking to their Flickr page, but this works nicely.

You can align the header/footer yourself in this version, go into the options and turn off the automatic CSS then just define the styles in your site CSS to make it look however you want.
I will be adding the option to say how many pics you want with the next version next week.

Also it would be cool to have the title of the photo show up on mouseover, and to have options for the links to lead to any of the various image sizes.

Looks like a bug in it, I will make sure it is fixed in the next version, for now for adding tags together just use a comma to seperate them

I’ve mentioned about WP-Flickr in my blog (it’s in Turkish) and I know couple of people using it from their comments.
However, 2 days ago I’ve received a comment saying, she can not make it working. After some writing I understand she made everything according your instructions but it is not working. Plug-in activated, everything fine in control panel. She writes the tags but no pictures in preview pane. Also when she use it at posts reslut is nil like no code inserted written. I asked what other plugins she is using and answer was; 3 standard wp plugins plus Simple Tags and WP-Flickr. Do you think it can conflict with Simple Tags? or should we look other problems? Thanks for your help.

I did some very light modifying to demonstrate how this module could work well against other photo services as well (specifically, 23. A review of the (very few) modifications needed can be found here: http://www.23hq.com/forums/message-view?message_id=233753
Well, I just wanted to compliment you on the good work — and ask about the possibility of a version 0.4, which supports more than one platform? The basic functionlity is in place to do this, and you’d probably only need make rss_pattern and image_pattern into an array to support this; then users would be able to add more photos sharing sites, and they’d be able to choose which photo sites to show photos from.

I installed the plug in as described and added computer to my post, but no image appeared in the post.

Neat plugin, keep it up fella.
I’ve been trying to get it to do a few extras, with some success - e.g. outputting “m” size photos, instead of just the tiny square ones. It would be a pretty neat addition to be able to do this in posts - almost like adding photos, newspaper-style to a blog entry. Without having to do the work.
Like I said, some success - it became obvious it needs a tag-style rewrite, and also support in for multiple photos (i.e. calling the plugin more than once / post). Agh. It went over my head at that point.
<flickr tags=”blah blah blah”>Description goes here</flickr> would perhaps make more sense?

Hi, I am having problems with WP-Flickr I have instaled the latest version and activated it, but when I use it ie keyword it doens not work. All i get in the post is the keyword displayed and on the preview in the options menu I get the taghs and keyword diplayed, any help would be appreciated thanks

I would be great if you can only show pictures from an specific Flickr member, for example you. It makes the pictures shown on your weblog a lot more personal then just pictures from anybody.

I havent had any time to work on this as I originally intended, it would be fairly easy to modify the code and add the link through capability but I dont have time to add it right now.
If you are able, it should be easy to add it and you are free to modify the plug-in with the license it is released under. I do get loads of mail about this plug-in though so maybe i should finish development of it,

Hi there. I really like your wp-flickr plugin. Have only been using it since v0.3 but have had no major challenges with it until now.
I found that some people were visiting my site at 800×600 (from India) and that my current layout didn’t gracefully degrade with 5 pictures wide.
I was able to change it to 4 in the code but thought while I was doing that, that it would be a nice option to have on the options screen.
Related to this feature, I had to manually go back and clear each individual tag’s cache that I have used throughout my site to date. This was easy enough to do through the options menu but, honestly, it was very time consuming having to do it one tag at a time.
I was thinking it would be really nice to have some global cache-clearing button on the options screen that could be invoked manually at will, but that also would be invoked automatically if a person decided to change the number of pictures displayed by wp-flickr.
Finally, I had to adjust the width of the flickr_container css div from 400px to auto in order for it to display correctly at the smaller screen resolutions.
So there’s some constructive feedback for you to consider. In the meantime, thanks again for the hard work and follow-through you’ve shown in making this plugin as reliable as it is so far.

Oops! I almost forgot that I seem to have encountered a bug related to the comma separator.
Your plugin translates the “,” into a “+” for storage in the database, then converts the “+” into an “&” for display in the options page.
I cannot for the life of me delete any entry with an “&” in the display. I tried my hand at modifying the plugin’s .php code but I couldn’t get my attempts at modification to make any difference.
Your assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Thanks Dave for a great plugin.
I’m sure there is a better way to add links to the five thumbnails, but I have done a small hack that works for me. Below are the lines I have changed in wp-flickr.php
1) change the definition of image_pattern to include the both the link and the image in the RSS description:
define(’image_pattern’, ‘/]*>/i’, false);
2) since there are many spaces now in this pattern one can no longer split the different entries using this character. for this reason, i append an apersand to each image string (any character that doesn’t appear elsewhere in the string will do).
$ret_val .= str_replace(’_m.jpg’, ‘_s.jpg’, $image_result[1]).”&”;
3) as before, one needs to trim the final character from the end
$ret_val = trim($ret_val,”& “);
4) then you can split this long string into five separate strings
$image_array = split(’&’, $images);
5) and finally, construct the and tags and append them to the output
$ret_val .= ‘‘;
As I said before, I’m sure there’s a more elegant solution to this problem, but I’m relatively new to PHP so it’s all I could come up with. That being said, it does work for me.

I wish there was some way I could use WP-Flickr to display different sizes of photos. I actually prefer the original “_m” size rather than the “_s” square thumbnail, but sometimes I like to display the little square thumbnail.
Like, if you have ocean it would show a square thumbnail, but if you had a different set of tags, say ocean it would show the larger version.

This plugin is great. I use to work with wordpress and flickr together and this plugin is a great way of using them together.
Anyway I miss some options, like the possibility of adding a complete set of pictures, or adding all the images with some tag from just one flickr user.

I found using Wordpress to design my web sites a great time saver and with plugins for automatic sitemap generation and SEO optimisation and easy changing of themes its such a web design time saver. If fact i just made a template from the theme i’m currently using and after veiwing the souce code i just saved as html and with a bit of copy and pasting moved all the content on my older html pages to the new template now my older pages all look the same as the blog template. On a new site this isnt a problem but this one has been around a while before i used Wordpress. Still have a load of article pages to move over but i should be able to automate some of it with a few block text replacer programs i have.
